BCRR History

The Bow Corridor Regional Race (BCRR) series has been providing regional races for athletes, young and old in the Bow Corridor for 19 years (started in 1990/91 by Canmore and Foothills clubs, with support from CODA).  Originally a as a regional race series for local development athletes, the series now has grown to include all of the major race clubs in the Bow Corridor hosting races. Numbers have grown from 25 - 30  racers, sometimes only a few in the each category, to last year where the races averaged over 135 racers of all ages and abilities.

Race events have often included non-traditional events including downhill and challenge formats for youth. Some of the now standard international races have been done as fun events in our race series before they were fully adopted by the FIS, including team sprints and continuous pursuit (skiathon).

Youth has always been a key focus for the race series. Along with providing youth low-key introductory competitive experiences, FUN and challenge has been the focus of formats. The holiday season (December) race has often coincided with a regional Xmas Camp.

The race series has also provided great training opportunities to many provincial and national level athletes training in the Bow Corridor.  Many of our Olympic athletes have raced in BCRR races, including local Olympic medalists Chandra Crawford, Sara Renner and Brian McKeever who got their careers started young.

Come take part with -  or just check out -  the next generation of top-level racers lining up with keen recreational racers.
